Food Pantrys in Need

All over MI there are food Pantry's & other organizations who help fight hunger on a local level in need. These Organizations have fewer donations and more people who need their services. That is not a good combination. We couponers often pick up more then we need or items we don't even plan on using. (only if they are free or we make money of course:)

So when I got a e-mail that said Food Gatherers was running low, I decided to see what I could put together for a donation.
Today was the first time I have been to this organization. They where very nice and great full for the donation. They are very unique in that they have a large garden so that they can give fresh produce out. They also encourage others to plant a row in their garden for Charity's like theirs. Here is there mission statement

Food Gatherers exists to alleviate hunger and eliminate its causes in our community by: reducing food waste through the rescue and distribution of perishable and non perishable food; coordinating with other hunger relief providers; educating the public about hunger; and developing new food resources.

They take your donation by weight mine came to 100pounds. The dollar value of all of it came to $451.74






I love that through couponing I am able to help others, something like this would not have been possible for my family to do before coupons.
